PAMPANGA -- Third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. wants the Paskuhan Village back as a permanent cultural heritage.

Gonzales filed House Bill 7207 last February 20, declaring the Paskuhan Village, also known as the Hilaga property, as a cultural heritage and further declaring it as property of public domain.

PAMPANGA -- Market vendors took their fight against the Apalit local government’s plan to construct a new public market to a higher level, as they filed a petition for intervention before the Pampanga Provincial Board (PB) on February 27.

Members of the Association of Apalit Market Vendors and Stall Owners wore anew their red shirts to show their unity in protesting the proposed construction of a new public market in the hope that they may win the hearts of PB members during the joint committee hearing of good governance and trade and industry.

28 Feb 2018 - Board to look into Apalit ordinance on new public market

PAMPANGA -- The Provincial Board (PB) committee on good governance chairman Board Member Ananias Canlas Jr. vowed Wednesday, February 28, to look into the “legality” of the an ordinance in Apalit that will allow the construction of a new and modernized public market.

The move came after a group of market vendors and stall owners in the town’s existing public market said that Municipal Ordinance 22, the ordinance allowing the establishment of a new public market, was railroaded and did not pass through the proper and legal course.

A drug suspect who has been considered a high-value target (HVT) was arrested in a drug bust in Barangay Manibaug Pasig, Porac, Pampanga, last February 27.

Pampanga Police Provincial Director Joel Consulta identified the suspect as Emedios David, alias Maru, 53, an "administrative aide" of the Porac Municipal Government.

28 Feb 2018 - P9.6M allotted for anti-drugs, peace and order

The Peace and Order Council (POC) of Mabalacat City has allocated P9.6 million for the local government’s drive against illegal drugs and criminality.

During the first quarter joint meeting of the POC, City Drug Abuse Council and City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office last February 27, the council passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Crisostomo Garbo to utilize the confidential funds for this year under the Peace and Order and Public Safety plan of the city.

26 Feb 2018 - DA-Central Luzon targets to increase rice production

PAMAPNGA -- Department of Agriculture (DA) Central Luzon OIC-Regional Executive Director Engineer Roy Abaya disclosed that the regional office targets to increase their 2018 rice production to four million metric tons in a bid to contribute to the country's rice sufficiency program.

Abaya made this planned projection during a monthly agri-meeting with stakeholders and also recognized the significant contribution of the agriculture officers for the increment on 2017 national rice production.

25 Feb 2018 - SSS to shoulder service fees for members' transactions with partner banks

PAMAPNGA -- The Social Security System (SSS) will shoulder the costs of standard service fee applied for local collection and disbursements of benefits of accredited collecting banks in accordance with Social Security Commission (SSC) Resolution No. 870s. 2017.

SSS president and chief executive officer Emmanuel F. Dooc said the application of standard service fee is in compliance with the Department of Finance directive to shift to fee-based compensation agreement, which will take effect upon amendment of the agency's existing agreement with its partner banks.

MABALACAT CITY -- Thousands of tourists and spectators watched the Caragan Festival that highlighted the street dancing participated in by 49 public and private elementary and secondary schools in the city last Friday.

City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said this year’s festival is the biggest so far with more than 30,000 participants and visitors.

PAMAPNGA -- Butil Partylist Representative Cecil Chavez on Friday asked for the revamp of the National Food Authority (NFA) Council, the policy-making body of the NFA, to include Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Manny Pinol and his key people into the critical policy-making body.

“The glaring, hard-to-fathom non-inclusion of Secretary Pinol and his key people in the council is akin to excluding the Philippine National Police director general from the top-level efforts to find the best policy on exterminating drugs and crime,” Chavez said in a statement to Sun.Star Pampanga.

In her recent Facebook post, Woo Seonkyung personally thanked Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) acting president Alexander Cauguiran for their swift action which led to the recovery of her taxable items including a bag and cosmetic products which were held at the BOC office since last February 13.

22 Feb 2018 - Exec urges NWRB to cancel Angeles City Water District’s certification

ANGELES CITY -– A city councilor has filed a resolution urging the National Water Regulatory Board (NWRB) to cancel the Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) of the Angeles City Water District (ACWD).

Councilor Jesus “Jay” Sangil filed the resolution following the water crisis in barangays Margot and Sapangbato, the two villages situated at the upland portion of the city adjacent to the Clark Freeport.

22 Feb 2018 - Proposed road link gets P1-B allotment

PAMAPNGA -- Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s proposed 29-kilometer road linking the towns of Lubao, Guagua, Minalin, and Sto. Tomas has been given an allotment of P1-billion by the national government.

According to Pampanga Second Engineering District chief Gregorio Audea, Mrs. Arroyo was able to convince the national government in including the construction of the Lubao-Guagua-Minalin-Sto. Tomas Road in the Public Works department’s budget under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

22 Feb 2018 - Shellfish ban in Central Luzon lifted

PAMAPNGA -- After being banned for 100 days, shellfish from Bataan province and the whole of Central Luzon are now safe for consumption as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region III (BFAR-3) formally lifted the ban on Wednesday.

BFAR-3 Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz said that the shellfish ban imposed on November 17,2017 was lifted after the results of three consecutive monitoring activities conducted in the coastal waters of Bataan showed that shellfish meat from the region are already below the Philippine Regulatory Limit (PRL) of 60 microgram per 100 microgram level.

PAMAPNGA -- In official of the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday visited 13 children who received the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine and who are currently admitted at the Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital (JBLRMH) in this city.

DOH Assistant Secretary Ma. Francia Laxamana personally checked on the situation of the patients who were admitted after reportedly experiencing fever, dizziness and stomach aches which are the usual symptoms of dengue.

21 Feb 2018 - Clark airport body resolves Korean complaint in 24 hours

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), a subsidiary of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, has resolved a complaint of a Korean national against Customs personnel that went viral over Facebook.

After learning about the issue, CIAC immediately conducted an investigation regarding the experience of Woo Seonkyung and her husband with Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel and other crew at Clark airport last February 12.

PAMAPNGA -- The government is set to earn up to P1-billion monthly taxes from the various lottery games of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

This is based on the 20-percent tax increase set by the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law (Train) law, said PCSO general manager Alexander Balutan on February 19.

CLARK FREEPORT -- A Korean national has assailed Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel at Clark International Airport for their alleged rude behavior.

The complaint of Woo Seonkyung, which was posted on her Facebook account, stemmed from her experience with BOC Clark officers who ordered her to pay for US$137 or P6,941 as tax for items worth US$677 she bought from a duty free shop at Incheon Airport, South Korea.

CLARK FREEPORT -- Investors and locators inside the freeports of Clark and Subic have expressed apprehension that the full enforcement of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (Train) will drive away existing and potential investors in the country.

During a media forum at Midori Hotel last Monday, the locators stated the scrapping of benefits inside freeports and economic zones under the Train law will scare away foreign direct investments (FDIs).

PAMAPNGA -- Two men riding on a motorcycle shot and wounded a businessman in a holdup in Barangay San Pablo, Sta. Ana, Pampanga, Monday, February 19.

Authorities said Norway Santos of Barangay Sta. Lucia, Magalang town was on his way to pick-up and buy fish (tilapia) at a fishpond when held up by the suspects.

PAMAPNGA -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday, February 20 for the San Jose-Castuli farm-to-market road (FMR) at Barangay San Jose, this town. The PRDP is a national project under the DA that aims to establish a modern, value chain-oriented, and climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries sector.

The project is funded by the World Bank, national government, and participating local government units.

PAMAPNGA -- More than a hundred Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) parent-leaders from the 12 barangays of this town received P3,600 as annual allowance.

A total of 104 parent-leaders were assigned to monitor the lifestyle of fellow 4Ps members and the amount serves as compensation for performing their duties, said Mayor Peter Nucom.

19 Feb 2018 - Hero’s monument gets proper place at NLEx

PAMAPNGA -- Finally, the historical monument of Kapampangan hero Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos has found its proper place in a park near the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Interchange along Jose Abad Santos Avenue here. Last year, various groups and officials opposed the construction of the monument, which was located at the center island of the avenue.

They cited the place was not befitting of a hero who sacrificed his life for democracy and freedom during the Japanese regime.

19 Feb 2018 - Lawmaker: Close 'polluting' plants along Quezon Road

PAMAPNGA -- Representative Juan Pablo Bondoc urged the local government of San Simon, headed by Mayor Leonora Wong, to close down all “polluting and defiant” industrial plants located along Quezon Road.

This was amid the numerous complaints aired by residents of Barangay San Isidro against the industrial plants, as well as the alleged various environmental violations they committed as identified by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

19 Feb 2018 - 6 members of Akyat Bahay gang arrested

PAMAPNGA -- Six suspected Akyat Bahay members, including two minors, were arrested while illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, as well as various identification cards (IDs) and passports were confiscated during a drug bust conducted by police in Angeles City over the weekend.

Joint operatives of Angeles City Police Drug Enforcement Unit and Angeles City Police Station arrested Dennis Laxamana, 38, and Marlon Acuna, 34, both Angeles City residents; Abelardo Galang, 32, of Magalang town; Shanice Canasa, 24; and two minors.

PAMAPNGA -- The City Government of San Fernando commended on Monday, February 19, Monico B. Sta. Ana of the Traffic Management Division under the Public Order and Safety Coordinating Office for his exemplary contribution in the immediate arrest of a robbery suspect.

The robbery happened in a beauty product store along B. Mendoza Street, Barangay Sto. Rosario Poblacion, in the City of San Fernando.

17 Feb 2018 - Central Luzon police join nationwide earthquake drill

PAMAPNGA -- The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon joined in the conduct of the first nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill held Thursday afternoon.

Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus, PRO director, said the earthquake drill and simulation aims to help prepare Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel and other employees inside the camp for an earthquake.

PAMAPNGA -- Members of the Apalit Municipal Council ordered on February 7 the suspension of alleged “renovation” works being done at a closed steel plant in the town for lack of necessary permits.

PAMAPNGA -- A total of 1,975 persons with disabilities (PWDs) were given P4,937,500 educational financial assistance by the Provincial Government of Pampanga through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) recently. The distribution held at Bren Z.

PAMAPNGA -- Reporters took an afternoon off from beating their regular deadlines by participating in the Chinese watercolor painting lessons provided by the Chan Lim family and students at SM City Pampanga on Sunday.

The event was part of the exhibit dubbed "An Exhibit of Chinese and Western Paintings" by the Chan Lim family of artists and students. The exhibit was participated in by 40 artists and some students and enthusiasts who joined the free Chinese painting workshop on opening day.

ANGELES CITY -- Former President and current Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is pushing for the construction of cruise ports in major coastal provinces of the country. “If the cruise ports are constructed, the Philippines will further open its gateway for more Chinese tourists.

PAMAPNGA -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) has extended financial aid and food assistance to the families of the three school-children who allegedly died due to the controversial Dengvaxia, an anti-dengue vaccine. The families of Wendell Cueller, 10 years old from Magalang; Kristine Jane Magtira, 12, from Candaba; and Jica Juliana Domingo, 12 from Masantol each received P10,000 financial assistance from the Capitol and another P10,000 from Governor Lilia Pineda.

They were also given one cavan of rice and two boxes of mamon or sponge cake.

ANGELES CITY -- Two policewomen helped an inmate deliver a baby at the Angeles City Police Station 1 located at Barangay Sto. Rosario, Angeles City recently.

Authorities said that at around 9:20 am on January 30 while SPO4 Evelyn Pineda was attending to a walk-in client, she heard what sounded like labor cries emanating from the female custodial facility cell.
