PAMPANGA -- Embodying Andres Bonifacio’s bravery in fighting for the country’s sovereignty, the Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator na tutol sa Phaseout (STOP) on Thursday, November 30, staged a rally to protest anew the Department of Transportation’s plan to phase out jeepneys.

The rally gathered almost a thousand jeepney federation officers from Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan and as far as Baguio, Rizal and Quezon for a protest caravan which started in this city’s Dolores intersection going to Salakot in Clark where the general assembly was held.

ANGELES CITY -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has arrested illegal drug personalities in 1,916 operations where some P84 million were seized.

PDEA Chief of Staff Irish Calaguas issued the statement following reports that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be involved again in the war against drugs.

MABALACAT CITY -- A victim of a recent snatching incident in this city has decried the prevalence of robbery incidents near a bus terminal in Barangay Dau here.

Journalist Minerva Zamora Arceo, who lost P3,100 cash, credit cards, identification cards and other valuables in a recent incident, said she was informed that several commuters and residents were victimized by robbers on board motorcycles or what the police call “riding in tandem.”

PAMPANGA -- Guagua's Mayor Dante Torres led government officials, municipal employees and local residents in the lighting of the town's Christmas lanterns at the Plaza Burgos, a tradition that has been observed since 1995.

Torres led the early evening program on Tuesday at the Plaza Burgos Gazebo where 31 lanterns, symbolizing the town's 31 barangays were simultaneously lit along with the Christmas lights and dozens of other lanterns from the different business establishments of the town.

PAMPANGA -- The local government of Apalit is looking into the possibility of relocating the public market just 500 meters away from its current location in the town’s intersection.

The proposal authored by Committee on Market and Slaughterhouse Chairman Councilor Edmon Simon was filed to move the decades-old public market to a bigger 6,000 square meter lot near its current location.

PAMPANGA -- The proposed relocation of the decades-old public market was slammed by the 200-strong vendors and stall owners during Monday’s public hearing held at the municipal covered court.

The group of vendors and stall owners led by their President Elvie Balboa expressed their strong opposition on the planned transfer of the public market some 500 meters away from its current location in the town’s intersection along MacArthur Highway.

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) started investigating over the weekend the high air pollution levels allegedly caused by the operations of three huge steel smelting plants located in Barangay San Isidro in this town.

The inspection, which started Friday, was personally ordered by DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu to prove the study released by a labor and environmental group accusing Wan Chiong Steel Corporation, Melters Steel Corporation, and Real Steel Corporation of being sources of air pollution which is detrimental to the environment and public health.

PAMPANGA -- Barangay Pabanlag’s population is but a shadow of its former 500-strong families that once settled in this remote mountain side village since the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo more than 25 years ago. Now, the village only has a few of its former residents left. Pabanlag village chief Ernesto Manasan said that this is about to change as development works that have been accorded the village would be a come on for former residents, now residing in resettlement sites, to come home.

27 Nov 2017 - Dimson hopeful on surface water as source for Pampanga supply

PAMPANGA -- Board Member Salvador Dimson (2nd District) had expressed hopes that the various water utilities in the province would exploit other sustainable means of water source stressing that surface water is among the possible sources.

Dimson, who represented Governor Lilia Pineda in an event of PrimeWater here, said that surface water poses less impact on the environment adding that ground water supply in some areas of the province is fast becoming difficult.

PAMPANGA -- Members of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) rescued a Korean national abducted last Friday inside his residence in Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga. PNP-AKG acting director Senior Supt.

Glenn Dumlao identified the South Korean as Lee Jung Dae, who was forcibly taken by three other Koreans identified as Cha Jae Young, Cha Dae Sun and Kim Min Kwan and Filipino Raymond Flores.

PAMPANGA -- The Central Luzon job industry has posted a higher salary average for starting employees than that of the national average in the Philippines, a report from JobStreet.com stated.

According to the 2017 JobStreet.com Pampanga Report presented to local mediamen recently, the regional average for fresh graduates’ or those with less than one year of work experience, entry salary is almost two percent higher at P19,478 compared to the national average of P19,437.

PAMPANGA -- Department of Tourism-Central Luzon Director Carolina Uy said the agency has allotted P6 million for Central Luzon’s tourism frontliners from the private sector in 2018.

The budget, which will come from ABB Canada grants, will be used for the skills trainings of tourist guides, hotel and restaurant services personnel, travel and tours business owners and other members of the tourism industry.

CLARK FREEPORT--- Some 55 vehicles of various brands were tested in this year’s fuel economy run of the Department of Energy (DOE)-Energy Utilization Management Bureau.

The participating vehicles consisted of sedans, service utility vehicles, multi-purpose vehicles, and pick-ups with 26 vehicles running on diesel and another 26 running on gasoline.

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-Revenue Region 4 Regional Director Jethro Sabariaga met with Bureau of Customs officials in Central Luzon to discuss possible ways of curbing smuggled goods that are cheating the country with supposed revenue from unpaid taxes.

The meeting came after the recent operations carried out by the BIR against cigarettes without necessary tax stamps in Nueva Ecija, as well as liquor confiscated from a warehouse in Angeles City.

PAMPANGA -- Residents of this town’s Betis District take the commemoration of All Souls’ Day in a more religious and meaningful significance with nine days of masses for the souls of the dead celebrated at the Saint James the Apostle Parish and visiting the tombs of their relatives to light candles after each afternoon mass.

While others would have been setting aside left-over candles after the November 1 occasion, folks of this district would continue honoring the dead, showering them with prayers in the company of family members continuously for nine days, starting from November 1 until November 9.

PAMPANGA -- Members of the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB)-Central Luzon who were deployed for almost four months in Cagayan de Oro were given welcome honors Sunday night.

Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon director, said a total of 61 personnel from the RPSB headed by Senior Inspector Dennis Duran were deployed in Cagayan de Oro from June 27 to October 26, during the armed conflict between the government forces and the Maute Group.
