30 Dec 2016 - Gonzales wants NLEx service road link for Pampanga

PAMPANGA -- Third District Representative Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales, Jr. is calling for the establishment of a 20-meter service road linking the eastern and western sides of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) in Pampanga to provide an effective alternative that would cut travel time, reduce cost, enhance rural productivity, and link far flung barangays to their city and town centers. The proposal, otherwise known as Pampanga Service Road, was forwarded under proposed Bill Number 2271.

Gonzales said that while NLEx has become a major factor in the growth and development of Central Luzon, particularly the province of Pampanga, the use of the NLEx, particularly for short distance or inter-barangay travel has become costly and impractical for many people in the Province of Pampanga.

30 Dec 2016 - Businessman expresses support to new RDC-3 chairman

ANGELES CITY --- A businessman has expressed support to Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan who was recently appointed chairman of the Regional Development Council (RDC-3).

Rene Romero, vice chair of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Incorporated (PamCham) and a former representative of the RDC Central Luzon, said Pamintuan as the council’s head will be “very effective’ in working for the development of Region III and the whole country.

30 Dec 2016 - Senior citizens benefit in LGU’s gift giving

MABALACAT CITY --- Some 679 senior citizens from various villages here received packs of groceries during yesterday’s gift-giving sponsored by the city government through the Office of the Senior Citizens’ Affairs (OSCA).

OSCA President Rizalino, who was assisted by OSCA coordinator in the distribution of the gifts, said the activity has brought joy to their members.

27 Dec 2016 - ‘Nina’ spares Central Luzon

PAMPANGA -- Despite being placed under typhoon signal number, the province of Pampanga and the whole of Central Luzon did not feel much of the wrath of Typhoon “Nina” (Nock-Ten) when it made landfall on Monday.

According to Philippine Information Agency Region III Assistant Regional Director Carlo Datu, no individuals or families were affected by the onslaught of the typhoon.

27 Dec 2016 - Duterte appoints Pamintuan as RDC Central Luzon head

ANGELES CITY -- President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan the new chairperson of the Regional Development Council in Region III.

This was gleaned in the President’s letter to Pamintuan dated December 12, 2016 which stated “Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed Chairperson, Regional Development Council, Region III, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

27 Dec 2016 - 'Code white' alert in public hospitals

PAMPANGA -- In anticipation of the expected rise of emergency incidents during the New Year's Eve celebration, the Department of Health (DOH) has placed all public hospitals in the province under “code white” alert to quickly respond to victims of firecracker-related injuries.

According to DOH Region III Director Leonita Gorgolon, all hospital staff especially those assigned in emergency rooms, surgeons and those with specialization on trauma and injuries, will not be allowed to go on leave during the code white alert.

23 Dec 2016 - Mabalacat council approves P1.3-B budget

MABALACAT CITY –- The Sangguniang Panglunsod has passed the city’s 2017 budget amounting to P1,300,300,000 in what local officials described as pro-people budget.

Vice-Mayor Christian Halili said the city council scheduled a special session to accommodate the approval of the city’s budget for the next fiscal year.

PAMPANGA -- Tourists and residents who will be navigating the roads of this capital city are warned of the heavy traffic they may experience during the coming holiday weekend.

22 Dec 2016 - 2 more Sto. Tomas villages drug-cleared

PAMPANGA -- Two more villages in this municipality were recently declared drug-cleared by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Barangays San Vicente and Moras dela Paz headed by Chairmen Orlanda Lingat and Reynaldo Sombillo, respectively, were cleared by authorities after they complied with the requirements of the PNP Illegal Drugs Campaign Plan Project Double-Barrel.

21 Dec 2016 - SPES beneficiaries get P7.6-M cash incentive

PAMPANGA -- Some 1,000 beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) received on Wednesday a total of P7,690,000 cash incentives or P7,690 each at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here.

21 Dec 2016 - Cop tells mayors, village chiefs: Do not use anti-drug campaign for politics

PAMPANGA -- An official from the Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO) recently reminded elected officials to refrain from using the campaign against illegal drugs to demoralize their political opponents.

PPPO Deputy Provincial Director for Administration Mylene Domingo made the pronouncement during the declaration of Masantol as the first drug-cleared town in Pampanga which officials from the local government and the village chairmen of the 26 barangays attended.

19 Dec 2016 - The first in Pampanga: Masantol now ‘drug-cleared’

PAMPANGA -- With only some two weeks left before the year-end deadline, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Monday declared this municipality as the first drug-cleared town in the Province of Pampanga.

This was after the remaining eight barangays---Sta. Lucia Anac, Sta. Lucia Matua, San Isidro Anac, San Isidro Matua, Balibago, Palimpe, Sta. Cruz and Bulacus---successfully complied with all the requirements of the Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign Plan Double Barrel of the national government and has reportedly accounted for all their respective drug surrenderees.

PAMPANGA -- Another history was marked on Saturday evening as Barangay Dolores successfully earned its third consecutive win in the annual battle of giant lanterns held at the Robinsons Starmills.

Barangay Dolores, headed by its Chairwoman Vilma Caluag, bested anew its nine challengers with its 20-foot craft synchronized with dancing colorful lights.

PAMPANGA -- An animal raiser, agri-entrepreneur and one farmer organization from Central Luzon have made it in this year's 2016 National Gawad Saka.

Department of Agriculture regional director Andrew Villacorta said that Celestino Mananguit of San Ildefonso in Bulacan was hailed as this year's Outstanding Animal Raiser while Bagumbayan Primary Multipurpose Cooperative of Llanera town in Nueva Ecija was hailed as the Outstanding Farmer Organization.

18 Dec 2016 - Notorious drug group neutralized

PAMPANGA -- A notorious drug-trafficking group operating in this capital city was neutralized after five of its members were arrested recently by local authorities.

Chief Superintendent Aaron Aquino, regional director of the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3), identified those arrested as brothers Manuel and Frank Manarang, their sister-in-law Consorcia and alleged accomplices Gerson Nugoy and Mark Alegre.

17 Dec 2016 - DA to aim for P3.7M metric ton production in 2017

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) here is expecting a 3.7 million metric ton production in palay for 2017 bench marking on its highest production in 2014, adding that it is achievable.

"We will always aim for our highest record production and that is 3.7 million metric tons in 2014," DA regional director Andrew Villacorta said stressing that it was a record-breaking production at a time when the province was not hit by any major calamity.

MABALACAT CITY -- An employee of Hotel Sogo in Barangay Dau here received praises after he immediately turned over to the hotel management US$4,900 (equivalent to about P250,000) he found inside one of the rooms.

Jayward Comendador, a room guide at Hotel Sogo Dau, was hailed by netizens and the hotel management for returning the cash left by a foreigner identified as Robert Nay.

PAMPANGA -- After days of atonement and penance since its monstrance containing the Holy Eucharist was stolen by still unindentified suspects last week, the San Guillermo Parish Church reopened its doors.

Parishioners led by Parish Priest Manny Sta. Maria, as a sign of sacrifice, walked barefoot in a procession heading to the San Guillermo Church after a 6:00 am at the San Vicente Chapel, also in this town.

14 Dec 2016 - Traffic measures set for lantern fest

PAMPANGA -- Two days before the most anticipated Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) on December 17, the festival's Executive Committee has formulated a comprehensive traffic scheme to avoid the massive pile up of vehicles at the vicinity of Robinsons Starmills, the venue for the “Ligligan Parul.”

GLF Executive Committee member Marnie Castro said that strict traffic measures will be implemented during the lantern festival to avoid traffic gridlocks which have been plaguing Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA) for several consecutive weekends now.

13 Dec 2016 - Fernandino vendors get facility aid from BFAR

PAMPANGA -- Some 55 market vendors from this capital city on Monday received tabletop fish stalls from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region III (BFAR-3) as aid in their livelihood.

The stainless fish stalls were distributed to the tenants of the Old Public Market to ensure cleanliness and sanitation on the vending sites for fish merchandise.

13 Dec 2016 - Bacolor church to reopen doors

PAMPANGA -- The San Guillermo Parish Church here is set to reopen this Thursday following the recovery of its stolen Blessed Sacrament.

However, parishioners would need to atone for the theft as they are expected to join a "walk of atonement" this Thursday. Parishioners are enjoined to join the barefoot procession from San Vicente Chapel after the 6:00 am mass all the way to the parish church.

PAMPANGA -- Either they will be confiscated or shot down if airborne by a sniper.

This, as the Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) Committee on Monday stressed that the flying of drones taking aerial shots during the world renowned “Ligligan Parul” or giant lantern festival on December 17 will be totally banned in San Fernando City.

PAMPANGA -- The management of Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) has clarified that it will not be meddling with the case of the four students recently caught having pot session.

This was disclosed by DHVTSU President Enrique Baking, who said that the students were nabbed outside the university premises.

11 Dec 2016 - As Duterte's deadline nears, 41% of Pampanga villages 'drug-cleared'

PAMPANGA -- In line with the intensive war against illegal drugs, some 171 villages from this province were cleared from the proliferation of illegal drugs by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The drug-cleared barangays represents some 41 percent of the total 414 drug-infested villages in the 19 municipalities and two components cities in the province as of November 30.

PAMPANGA -- The earlier reportedly stolen Blessed Sacrament of the historic San Guillermo Parish in Bacolor town have been recovered near the area but the monstrance containing it still remains missing.

The Blessed Sacrament is the devotional name of the sacramental bread that Catholics believe, when consecrated, to be the actual body of Jesus Christ.

SUBIC BAY -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently recognized Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction-Philippines (HHIC-Philippines) as top exporter for the machinery and transport equipment sector in the country.

The Top Sectoral Exporter citation was given to Hanjin during the National Export Congress as the DTI cited the company’s numerous export transactions during the past year.

10 Dec 2016 - Holy Eucharist monstrance in town church stolen

PAMPANGA -- Masses at the historic San Guillermo Church in Bacolor town have been suspended after its monstrance (ostensorium or ostensory) containing the Holy Eucharist was stolen by a still unidentified suspect Friday evening or probably early morning Saturday, December 10.

San Guillermo Parish Priest Fr. Manny Sta. Maria said that on Saturday morning, an altar boy helping to prepare for the 6 a.m. mass discovered that a steel door leading to the area where the monstrance is kept was destroyed and forcibly opened.

10 Dec 2016 - Truck pins 4 to death in Jasa road mishap

PAMPANGA -- A flatbed truck carrying hundreds of sacks of cement along Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa) in San Juan Nepomuceno village, Guagua, pinned a family of three to death on Friday, December 9, after its driver allegedly lost control of the wheel when it tried to overtake another vehicle.

The fatalities were identified as Regalado Saclo, a councilor of Sta. Rita village, Lubao, Pampanga; Kathlene Saclo, 29; Xavien Red Adriel Saclo, 5; and Richard Dayot.

PAMPANGA -- National Government agencies located at the Diosdado Macapagal Government Center (DMGC), in collaboration with the Giant Lantern Festival committee 2016 and the City Government of San Fernando Pampanga, recently conducted the DMGC lantern festival here.

The activity aimed to promote the concerns of women and children through the collaboration among Gender and Development focal point systems and agencies in the DMGC. This will also support the national campaign to end Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) pursuant to Proclamation 1172 series of 2006.

PAMPANGA -- Some 14 villages in this capital city were declared drug-cleared by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) recently.

The 14 villages, which represent less than half of the total 35 villages in the city, were San Felipe, Juliana, Sto. Rosario, Del Carmen, Magliman, San Isidro, Sindalan, Dela Paz Sur, Bulaon, Baliti, Malino, Saguin, Pulungbulu, and Panipuan.

9 Dec 2016 - 2 nabbed for illegal drugs in Angeles City

ANGELES CITY -- A tricycle driver and a parking boy, suspected of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, were arrested in two separate operations conducted by the city police this week.

The city police identified the suspects as Joel Adarlo Porto, 45, a pedicab (trike) driver, a resident of P. De Guzman Street in Claro M. Recto village; and Henry Bucay Salac, 28, a parking boy, of Number 601 Mactan Street, also of Claro M. Recto village.

A vintage bomb, suspectedly made during World War II, was found in a village in this city on Wednesday, December 7.

The vintage bomb was kept in a bag left in Saguin village and was obtained through a report from concerned residents, authorities said.

8 Dec 2016 - PDEA, PA dismantle 3 drug dens in CSF

PAMPANGA -- Three suspected drug dens in this capital city were dismantled by joint operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Philippine Army (PA) in an anti-illegal drug operation conducted Wednesday.

Joint elements of the PDEA National Capital Region, PDEA Special Enforcement Force, PDEA Region III and the PA raided the three suspected drug dens located at Phase 1, Block 49, Lot 24, Northville 14 in Barangay Calulut in this city by virtue of a search warrant.

8 Dec 2016 - 26th Asean Armies Rifle Meet concludes in Pampanga

The 26th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM), an annual army shooting competition among the 10 Asean countries, recently concluded in a farewell dinner held Thursday at the LausGroup Event Centre in this city.

The meet was attended by hundreds of delegates composed of commanding officers and chiefs of land forces from all 10 Asean countries including the Philippines –the host for this year’s event which kicked off last November 28.

PAMPANGA -- The Municipal Government of Apalit was recognized as local government unit (LGU) with the highest collection in Real Property Tax (RPT) in the whole province during the kick-off ceremonies of the 445th Aldo Ning Kapampangan at the Capitol compound.

Apalit garnered 97.30 percent highest efficiency rating as of September 2016, aside from remitting the collection ahead of the deadline.

PAMPANGA -- The City of San Fernando Water District (CSFWD) on Monday challenged the 387 protesters led by Marilou Uban to scrutinize the government owned and controlled corporation’s joint venture or JV with Primewater Infrastructure Corporation, along with all the processes that led to the partnership.

CSFWD General Manager Jorge Gumba said that their office is open to all concessionaires who wish to take a look at the documents, processes and reports surrounding the JV in the name of transparency that the complainants are demanding.

PAMPANGA -- This year's 445th Aldo Ning Kapampangan (Pampanga Day) opened Monday with a celebration of the best festival dances from the province’s 22 municipalities and cities as each group presented street dances in front the Provincial Capitol building.

Groups from various towns presented their festival dances wearing their best costumes before government officials. Festival dances like the Sabuaga Festival of Santo Tomas, Duman Festival of Santa Rita, Binulu of Porac, Kamaru of Magalang and Mandukit of Guagua were among the dances presented during the event.

5 Dec 2016 - City College of San Fernando tops teachers’ licensure exam

PAMPANGA -- The City College of San Fernando (CCSFP) topped this year’s Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) on secondary education besting other universities and colleges in the region.

CCSFP posted a 76 percent passing rate in the LET last September 2016, which is way beyond the national passing rate of 34 percent. CCSFP, with a 48 percent passing rate, ranked fifth in elementary education.

PAMPANGA -- Alarmed with the recent discovery and confiscation of fake cigarettes and tax stamps, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 (RR4) has vowed to run after illegal cigarette sales in the region.

BIR regional director Jethro Sabarriaga said that the presence of illegal cigarettes presents a clear danger to the people and runs in competition with legitimate cigarette production. He said that illegal cigarettes deprive the government of revenue.

PAMPANGA -- All it took was 12,232 dancing LED lights and on-land and aerial fireworks in a 10-minute pyrotechnic music show to fill SM City Pampanga’s Amphitheatre and surrounding parking lots with a crowd of more than 30,000 people.

And at the center of it all was the 65 meter (213 feet) tall SM City Pampanga’s Ferris wheel, which was turned into the “Biggest Lantern of Hope” as it lit the night sky with dancing lights and fireworks.

PAMPANGA -- As part of its consumer protection program, the city government here on Thursday crushed boxes of substandard Christmas lights and defective weighing scales in front of the City Hall.
