29 Feb 2016 - Guiao wants traffic summit after polls

PAMPANGA -- First District Representative Joseller "Yeng" Guiao disclosed Monday that we will call for a traffic summit after the May polls in anticipation of rising developments in Clark.

Guiao, who accompanied Senator Franklin Drilon on Monday at Capitol for a courtesy call on Governor Lilia Pineda, said that growing traffic in the cities of Angeles, Mabalacat and San Fernando should be addressed even before reverse migration to the Clark and Central Luzon corridors actually happens.

29 Feb 2016 - Former DILG secretary favors death penalty

PAMPANGA -- Former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary and senatorial aspirant Rafael Alunan disclosed Monday that he is in favor of imposing the death penalty, particularly for drug pushers, syndicates and even for officials who protect criminals and terrorists.

Alunan, who paid Governor Lilia Pineda a courtesy call at Capitol, said that before he left the DILG years ago, he has already been warned of the country’s leaning to becoming a “narco state.”

PAMPANGA -- Some 4,000 Simonians will now benefit from all the programs of Philhealth as they were registered as members over the weekend.

Rural Health Unit officer Dr. Marline Dela Rosa said that the event entitled "Alaga Ka Para Sa Maayos na Buhay” by PhilHealth in collaboration with the provincial government and local government unit (LGU) aimed to enroll all Simonians in Philhealth to be part of the "Kalusugang Pangkalahatan" program of the national government.

28 Feb 2016 - MILF leader, 2 others arrested in drug sting

PAMPANGA -- A More Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) platoon leader and his two cohorts were arrested in a drug bust conducted by anti-narcotics agents in a parking lot of a mall here Saturday.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Central Luzon Director Gladys Rosales identified the suspects as Alan Lao (MILF Leader), alias Jimboy, 21; Andi Baraiman, 37; and Latip Baraiman, 39, all residents of Lanao, del Sur but currently staying in Barangay San Pablo, Castillejos, Zambales.

28 Feb 2016 - Philhealth programs to benefit 4,000 in San Simon

PAMPANGA -- Some 4,000 San Simon residents will now benefit from the medical assistance of Philhealth after their registration as members of the health coverage program on Friday.

Rural Health Unit officer Dra. Marline Dela Rosa said the members of the National Household Targeting System and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program together with some indigent families composed the beneficiaries who were registered under Philhealth.

28 Feb 2016 - Binay to increase OFW legal assistance fund

MABALACAT CITY -- United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) standard bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay vowed Friday to increase the overseas Filipino workers (OFW) legal assistance fund (LAF) that helps OFWs in distress.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), 90 Filipinos are facing the death penalty abroad. The LAF can be used for OFWs’ legal concerns such as filing cases against erring or abusive employers, hiring lawyers, bail and other litigation expenses.

28 Feb 2016 - Newcastle virus outbreak in Central Luzon still uncontained

PAMPANGA -- The outbreak of the Newcastle disease virus (NDV), a highly contagious and often severe disease affecting birds and fowl, in Central Luzon has yet to be contained, and government agencies here are devising measures to stop its further spread.

While the Department of Agriculture (DA) here is cautious in labeling the outbreak as an “epidemic,” the number of backyard fowl deaths due to NDV cannot be easily ignored. Some 41,000 birds, mostly fighting cocks and range chicken, have died in Central Luzon in the last weeks of January alone.

Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor, Angeles City police director, identified the arrested as Police Officer-2 Melvin Manaloto, a resident of said barangay and Richard de Guzman, of Barangay Pampang, both this city.

PAMPANGA -- The different Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) in Central Luzon were recognized at the recently concluded Search for the Best PESOs for 2015.

ANGELES CITY -- A German national was reportedly abducted by car-riding armed men along Barangay Anunas, Angeles City, last Wednesday afternoon.

Chief Superintendent Rudy Lacadin, Police Regional Office-3 (PRO3) director, identified the alleged abducted foreigner as Christian Michael Morman, manager of Penthouse Hotel in Angeles City.

The suspect involved in the slaying of a Filipino-Canadian citizen and his Slovenian girlfriend in their residence in Quezon City sometime in 2009 was finally arrested in Barangay Anunas, Angeles City on Thursday.

Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor, Angeles City police director, said that Criselda Dayag, 50, was arrested after hiding for seven years in her residence at the said barangay.

PAMPANGA -- Two men were injured in a vehicle smash-up along MacArthur Highway, Barangay San Agustin in San Simon last Thursday morning.

The victims were identified as Jellery Velasco, 29, a resident of Barangay Sta. Lucia, Sasmuan and driver of a Mitsubishi canter refrigerated van and his helper Roldan Relyosa, 35, resident of Barangay Sindalan, City of San Fernando.

26 Feb 2016 - 21 cops under fire for faking CSC certificates

PAMPANGA -- Some 21 police officers are under fire and have been ordered relieved Friday for submitting fake civil service eligibility certificates when they applied for Philippine National Police service from 2010 to 2015.

Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) Director Chief Superintendent Rudy Lacadin said he has ordered the relief and the conduct of a thorough investigation of the policemen who are presently assigned in different offices in Central Luzon.

26 Feb 2016 - Central Luzon fire cases down 36%

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Central Luzon said that fire incidents this year in Central Luzon decreased by at least 36 percent.

BFP Regional Director Aloveel Ferrer said that informing people about the causes of fire is the reason for the decrease on fire incidents adding that he awarded all the BFP personnel for the said accomplishment.

26 Feb 2016 - 9,000 folks from 3 towns receive free PhilHealth

PAMPANGA -- At least 9,000 families from the towns of Minalin, Sto. Tomas and San Simon received their Philhealth’s Members’ Data Records under the "Alaga Ka Para Sa Maayos Na Buhay" at no cost to the family beneficiaries.

With the a common goal of providing help to the less fortunate, the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the Provincial Government of Pampanga headed by Governor Lilia Pineda distributed the said Philhealth official records for the use of the members.

ANGELES CITY -- At least P250,000 worth of suspected shabu was seized from two suspected pushers during a buy-bust operation at Diamond Village, Barangay Balibago, this city, Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor, Angeles City police director, identified the arrested as Javier Bituin, 30, of Barangay Malabanias, Angeles City and Oscar Del Mando, 29, a resident of Barangay Camachilles, Mabalacat City.

25 Feb 2016 - DOT: Korean resort cannot claim ownership of domain

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) Central Luzon said Thursday that Korean wellness facility Punings Hot Springs cannot claim ownership of a property in its vicinity, much less prohibit people from using the same as entry point to certain places beyond.

This was the reply of the DOT-Central Luzon regarding the incident report involving the members of the Land Rover Club of the Philippines led by Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. Vice-Chairman Rene Romero and the management of Puning Hot Springs.

25 Feb 2016 - BFP holds second Central Luzon barangay fire Olympics

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Regional Office conducted its Second Central Luzon Olympics aimed at strengthening barangay fire brigades as force multipliers.

The event was held on Wednesday at Barangay Del Pilar where some 117 barangays and around 2,500 participants all over the seven provinces of Region III joined the training.

25 Feb 2016 - Pampanga nets P235-M RPT for 2015

PAMPANGA -- The Provincial Government has collected a total of P235,648,137.59 in Real Property Tax (RPT) for 2015.

The Provincial Treasurer's Office (PTO) said that the collected funds came from 19 towns of Pampanga. The province credits the Integrated Taxation Management System (iTAX) for the systematic collection. The system features integrated processes done in the municipality as well as digital maps and information that assist in tax collection.

PAMPANGA -- In line with the commemoration of the Edsa People Power Revolution, the city government here on Wednesday opened an exhibit remembering the sacrifices of Kapampangans to free the country from the Martial Law regime.

Dubbed "Edsa@30", the exhibit presented several photographs during the peaceful rally of several Kapampangans, particularly Fernandinos who opted to rise amid threats in life.

25 Feb 2016 - DepEd-3 initiates convergence with TEIs in Central Luzon

PAMPANGA -- In a bid to close the gaps between the needs of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the quality of the teacher graduates of the different teacher education institutions or TEIs in Central Luzon, DepEd-3 held the Regional Consultative Conference with the Teacher Education Institutions on February 24 at the Aquino Hall, DepEd Regional Office.

With the theme “Establishing Convergence and Collaboration towards producing Quality Teachers for the K to 12 Curriculum”, the convergence corresponds to the mandates of Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act that stipulates the need for the DepEd to work closely with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) specifically the TEIs in crafting a harmonized basic and tertiary curriculum towards developing Filipino graduates who can cope with the challenges of global competitiveness in the 21st century.

24 Feb 2016 - BIR lauds guv for tax campaign support

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region (RR) 4-Pampanga here has lauded the efforts of Governor Lilia Pineda in supporting the regional tax campaign kick-off program for 2016 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center as she also promised to support revenue measures of the said agency.

BIR RR4 Regional Director Jethro Sabariaga said that Governor Pineda's support in helping mobilize the youth sector in this year's event is a great help to the agency. He added that the support of a provincial official is a great boost for the campaigns success in the coming months. Governor Pineda had expressed her full support to the BIR as it drums up its tax campaign programs for the coming year.

PAMPANGA -- The Calangain Elementary School in Barangay Calangain, this town, received Thursday a P7-million two-storey, six-classroom building from Capitol’s performance challenge fund (PCF).

The school was chosen by the Provincial Government headed by Governor Lilia Pineda as recipient of the PCF, granted to Capitol as an incentive in passing the Seal of Good Housekeeping 2014 by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

24 Feb 2016 - Creation of hospitals for OFWs sought

PAMPANGA -- Senatorial aspirant Susan "Toots" Ople said that she is pushing for the establishment of a hospital, which will accommodate returning overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in the country.

Ople, a known advocate of OFW rights, said that the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) must invest in a hospital that will help OFWs, particularly those who were maltreated abroad.

PAMPANGA -- Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (PamCham) Vice Chairman Rene Romero has questioned the compliance of the Korean wellness facility Punings Hot Springs on the requirements for operation from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Romero, in a February 13 letter to DENR Regional Director Francisco Milla Jr., also inquired if the existence of the said facility inside the Sacobia Riverbed is not a violation of any environmental and safety standards.

PAMPANGA -- The City Government has its schedule loaded with various activities this February as “Kaganapan” 2016, a celebration in line with the 15th Cityhood Anniversary of San Fernando which kicked off Monday.

Mayor Edwin Santiago on Tuesday led the unveiling of the calendar of activities for this year’s affair.

2 Feb 2016 - World-class championship golf course in Lubao to open soon

PAMPANGA -- The Pradera Verde tourism estate here is set to open in August this year a world-class championship golf course, boosting the image of Pampanga as “a prime destination for golfers” in North and Central Luzon.

“It’s the best we have seen north of Metro Manila today and this is good for Pampanga’s economy and tourism,” said veteran golf coach Nestor Mendoza of the Country Club Philippines after their members played at the 18-hole golf course of the Pradera Verde golf course in Barangay Prado Siongco, here.

2 Feb 2016 - Romualdez urges government to protect OFWs in Qatar

MABALACAT CITY -- Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez urged Tuesday the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) and other concerned government agencies to protect some 12,000 Filipino architects and engineers working in Qatar.

The lawmaker issued the statement following reports that Qatar is already implementing a new employment requirement for foreign workers that could adversely affect the status of the OFW architects and engineers.

ANGELES CITY -- Newly appointed Trade Secretary Adrian Cristobal Jr. expressed his sincerest gratitude to the Bulacan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) officers and members in a meeting held at the Bulacan Negosyo Center at the Provincial Capitol Compound on Friday.

The BCCI, headed by Gigi Simbulan, were elated with the visit of Cristobal, noting that Bulacan is the first province he officially visited as Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary.

1 Feb 2016 - Village chief refuses to remove plant boxes

PAMPANGA -- A Minalin village chief here has refused to remove the plant boxes built along the Manila North Road National Highway in Barangay Sto. Domingo.

In a letter dated November 17, 2015 from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) District Engineer Office Enrico Guilas to Mayor Edgar Flores, the former requested that the plant boxes installed in the said highway must be removed as they are within the road right-of-way.

1 Feb 2016 - Sarmiento launches BuB4Barangay

PAMPANGA -- Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento launches Bottom-Up Budgeting or BuB4Barangays during the program's roll out to DILG field officers of Luzon Cluster with the theme "Heightening the BuB at the Grassroots Level".

Sarmiento will grace the conference to provide guidance as well as inspire DILG officers to implement BuB down to the grassroots level. During other BuB consultation conferences, Sarmiento said that the expansion of the BuB was the result of the clamor of the officers and members of the Ligangmga Barangay in the country, civil society organizations (CSOs), and the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP).

ANGELES CITY -- An aspiring councilor here has been summoned by the City Prosecutor's Office for alleged frustrated murder charges.

Documents show that businessman Ricardo "Dong" Tayag of RP Tayag Builders was issued a subpoena by Investigating Prosecutor Marcelino Pineda Jr. for alleged frustrated murder and required to appear at the City Prosecutor’s Office on February 3.
