31 Jul 2017 - Mayor wants ‘Balangiga’ in history subjects

ANGELES CITY -- Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan issued on Monday, July 31, Executive Order No. 33, directing all schools to include in history subjects “the importance of the Balangiga Bells and its significance to the country struggle for national independence and patrimony.”

The order came in the light of the statement made by President Rodrigo Duterte during his State of the Nation Address (Sona) last week where he called on the United States of America to return the Balangiga Bells to the country.

31 Jul 2017 - 14 villages still flooded

Despite the inclement weather, more than half of Masantol’s villages are still flooded as rainwater from the upstream part of the region continue Monday, July 31.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Jess Manansala said that 14 of the total 26 villages namely: Alauli, Balibago, Bagang, Sagrada, Sapang Kawayan, San Nicolas, Sto. Niño, San Isidro Matua, San Isidro Anac, Paguiba, Sta. Lucia Anac, Sta. Lucia Matua, Sta. Lucia Wakas and Bebe Anac, are flooded due to rains brought by Typhoon Gorio.

31 Jul 2017 - 8 drug suspects arrested

ANGELES CITY -- At least eight drug personalities were arrested in separate anti-illegal drugs operations in Angeles City over the weekend.

Senior Superintendent Patrick Villacorte, Angeles City police acting director, identified the arrested as Randy Calma, 36; Christian Gonzales, 19; and Janice Alberto, 33, all residents of Barangay San Francisco, Magalang, Pampanga; Patrick Nepomuceno, 26; Jules Sotto, 30; and Lyca Haidi Dalupan, all residents of Barangay Balibago, Angeles City; and Enrique Garcia, 45 and Orlando Pineda, 40, both of Pampang, Angeles City.

31 Jul 2017 - 500 Simonian seniors get cash grants

PAMPANGA -- Some 500 seniors citizens from this town recently received their quarterly social pension in a simple pay-out ceremony held in the municipal covered court.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Arminda Abenoja facilitated the pay-out of senior citizens who were identified as indigent and needy.

31 Jul 2017 - NCCA opens submission of proposals for 2018 grants

ANGELES CITY -- The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is now open for the submission of proposals for its 2018 Grants Program and has invited Central Luzon residents to submit.

NCCA is also looking for implementing partners for projects which have been conceptualized by the agency, NCCA Arts section head Ferdinand Isleta said.

30 Jul 2017 - 13 drug personalities arrested in San Fernando City

PAMPANGA -- Local authorities of this city arrested 13 persons in two separate operations conducted over the weekend.

Superintendent Roland Agohob, the city’s acting chief of police, said the Station Drug Enforcement Unit launched a drug bust operations in Purok 1, Ponduan in Barangay San Jose which resulted to the arrest of the three suspects.

30 Jul 2017 - Bizman backs transfer of DOTr to Clark

ANGELES CITY --- A businessman here has expressed support to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade for the transfer of the agency’s head office from Mandaluyong City to Clark Freeport.

Rene Romero, vice chair of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Incorporated (Pamcham), said this following the formal opening of the new office of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Saturday, July 29.

30 Jul 2017 - Quarry revenues in Pampanga reach P195M

PAMPANGA -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga's overall quarry revenues for the months of January to June this year have now reached P195,300,000 based from the records of the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO).

This is part of the current P2.1 billion collection of the province’s quarry revenues from July 2010 to June this year. For the month of June alone, the province had collected some P34,020,000.

30 Jul 2017 - 3 Santo Tomas night clubs closed

PAMPANGA -- Mayor Johnny Sambo of this town recently ordered the immediate and permanent closure of three night clubs in Sitio Balangcas which are allegedly operating illegally.

Sambo said the night clubs, which are located along the stretch of McArthur Highway, using videoke and canteen stalls as fronts conduct “dirty” businesses during night time.

30 Jul 2017 - Quarry operations along Sacobia River suspended

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) Board of Directors and the Provincial Board of Pampanga has ordered for the temporary suspension of quarrying and desilting operations along the Sacobia River.

The order was issued during a joint meeting of the provincial board and the CDC Board of Directors last Saturday which was called by Governor Lilia Pineda.

Various garden tools, organic fertilizers and assorted vegetable seeds were given to different sectors engage in farming composed of the farmers, households and selected public schools in the city.

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia Pineda recently led the distribution of incentives to garbage scavengers in the four districts of Pampanga as she vowed to help them lead a life of dignity guaranteed by laws.

The beneficiaries received ten kilos of rice, packs of groceries, P1,000 plus school bags containing school supplies for their children, which were donations from the quarry operators of Porac town.

PAMPANGA -- The cases of late registration of birth, death and marriage certificates in the City of San Fernando decreased in the last five years.

MABALACAT CITY -- Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said he has allotted P15 million to help his indigent constituents who need medical assistance.

28 Jul 2017 - ‘Bogus’ labor inspector arrested; faces charges

The Department of Labor and Employment Central Luzon said Friday, July 28, that it has formally pressed charges against an alleged bogus labor inspector arrested during an entrapment operation by operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Meycauayan, Bulacan.

Dole Central Luzon Regional Director Ana Dione, who has alerted Central Luzon employers of the incident, identified the suspect as Jorge Domasig Dimayuga, 47-years-old, married and unemployed, and a resident of San Agustin Village, Mapulang Lupa, Valenzuela City.

Local officials in the City of San Fernando hope to solve perennial flooding issues experienced by the city as it finished dredging some 500 meters of the third river (Pau River) in Sto. Tomas town.

Vice-Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, OIC City Engineer Anele David, volunteer Engr. Marni Castro, Sto. Tomas Mayor Johnny Sambo and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Assistant Regional Director Laureta Malaluan spearheaded on July 27 the opening of spillway in the said river to allow the water from San Fernando flow through the newly dredged portion down to Minalin and Sasmuan that leads to Manila Bay.

27 Jul 2017 - Federosa River cleared to avoid flashfloods

PAMPANGA -- In a bid to prevent flooding in Pampanga province, government officials cleared on Thursday the Federosa River which is considered the crossover site of water coming from several waterways in the upstream.

The massive anti-flood drive was participated in by the local government units of San Fernando and Sto. Tomas, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., which represented the private sector.

27 Jul 2017 - Aeta group questions formation of Sangguniang Tribung Aeta

MABALACAT CITY —- Some Aeta leaders are questioning the formation of the Sangguniang Tribung Aeta (STA) in what they described as divisive move among the indigenous people (IPs).

Danilo Adrias, village chief of Barangay San Vicente, Bamban, in his letter dated June 13, 2017 questioned the formation and composition of the STA claiming that the newly-formed council does not represent all of the Aeta chieftains in his town and in this city.

27 Jul 2017 - RTWPB-Central Luzon set to issue new ‘kasambahay’ wage order

PAMPANGA -- The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-Central Luzon announced on Thursday that it is set to issue a new wage order increasing the minimum wage rates for domestic workers or “kasambahays” in the region.

This, after Department of Labor and Employment Regional Director Ana Dione, who also chairs RTWPB-Central Luzon, disclosed that they have already completed their assessment of the prevailing socio-economic conditions in Central Luzon, results of the public hearing and other factors such as average wage of domestic workers and poverty threshold level in the region.

27 Jul 2017 - Dredging company faces complaint from BIR

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 here said on Wednesday that it has filed its 13th tax case under the Run After Tax Evaders (RATE) program.

BIR, in a press statement, said that it has filed a criminal complaint with the Office of the City Prosecutor of Olongapo City against Eco Link Dredging and Development Inc. and its president Genesis Singzon for unlawful pursuit of business.

ANGELES CITY -- The City Council majority bloc rejected Wednesday, July 26, PR-392 07-17, which is calling for the urgent investigation of the operations of Palladium Hotel located in Real Street in Balibago.

The resolution, sponsored by Councilor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., was rejected by the majority bloc headed by Councilor Alexander Indiongco for “lack of merit.”

26 Jul 2017 - 5 arrested in Masantol drug busts

PAMPANGA -- Five persons were arrested in anti-illegal drug operations launched by Municipal Drug Enforcement Unit here recently.

Chief Inspector Julius Javier, the town's police chief, said that Erick Oliver Isip, 35, Nelson Mariano, 43, and Reynaldo Pasio, 45, were arrested in separate one-time-big-time operations of the police force.

25 Jul 2017 - 3 foreigners nabbed for ATM skimming

PAMPANGA -- Three foreign nationals were arrested by authorities on Monday evening, July 24, for skimming an automated teller machine of a local bank here.

The three suspects were identified as Radu Minodor Sandor, a 42-year-old Nicaraguan national, Marcu Bogdan, 26, a Romanian national, and Petro Ioan Uveges, 44, holder of a Hungarian passport with the name Balasz Varga.

PAMPANGA -- Mayor Emmanuel Alejandrino said that he is asking for an apology from TV network ABS-CBN for its "damaging portrayal" of the town in its hit series "Ang Probinsyano".

Alejandrino also asked Governor Lilia Pineda on Monday, July 24, to have the resolution adopted by Provincial Board.

PAMPANGA -- More than 3,500 bantay bayan volunteers joined Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda on Monday, July 24, at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center expressing their support to the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The gathering was held a few hours before Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (Sona). It was part of the forum organized by the province to discuss disaster preparedness, peace and order and terrorism.

24 Jul 2017 - Masantol targets 1st drug-cleared town anew

PAMPANGA -- The Philippine National Police, in partnership with the local government, is aiming to make Masantol the first town in Pampanga to be declared as drug-cleared by the newly-organized oversight committee of the province.

Chief Inspector Julius Javier, Masantol town police chief, said that village officials are now preparing the documents and requirements needed to meet the 14 parameters set forth by the Dangerous Drugs Board.

PAMPANGA -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga has vowed to donate P6 million for the rehabilitation of the terrorist-stricken Marawi City in Mindanao.

Governor Lilia Pineda said that as early as end of June, she already asked the Provincial Council to appropriate funds for Pampanga’s contribution in rebuilding Marawi City, which was greatly devastated by the clashes between Maute group, who pledged allegiance to Isis, and government forces.

PAMPANGA -- Former Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo has asked the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) to correct a news item where he "had fallen victim to a demolition job through malicious stories published in the media."

In the aftermath of the sales of the Philippine Daily Inquirer to business tycoon Ramon Ang, Pelayo appealed to the paper to correct the article it had published in March 8, 2014, which claimed he had been charged with plunder over P127.7-million worth of ghost projects.

ANGELES CITY -- Rodolfo "Totoy Bato" Laxamana, the iconic Kapampangan folk singer whose unique singing style has inspired countless followers and imitators, was given a tribute by the Holy Angel University (HAU) Center for Kapampangan Studies on Thursday night.

The tribute was in the form of a concert where Kapampangan polosadores and poets took turns celebrating Laxamana’s musical legacy. A polosador is a practitioner of the Kapampangan musical genre called polosa, which Laxamana popularized.

PAMPANGA -- A group of concerned citizens from the private and public sectors on Thursday, July 20, asked the San Fernando City Government to create internal road networks to be used by pedicabs, tricycles and other three-wheeled vehicles, instead of traversing MacArthur Highway or Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa).

The concern was raised during the first meeting of the newly-organized Road Safety and Education Committee initiated by members of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.

21 Jul 2017 - Angeles village hall ransacked

ANGELES CITY -- A day after the City Government here inaugurated its command center on Wednesday, July 19, still unidentified suspects carted away cash and monitoring equipment from the village hall of Cutcut in this city.

Village chief Cecil Nepomuceno told SunStar Pampanga that the still unidentified men believed to be "Akyat Bahay" gang members broke into the village hall by gaining access through the roof and ceiling of the building.

MABALACAT CITY -- The Sangguniang Tribung Aetang (STA) Ng CADT (Certificate of Ancestral Domain) 025 has approved a resolution giving temporary authority to all licensed quarry operators along the Sacobia River.

The Aeta tribal council passed the resolution last July 18 after Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and chief executive officer Vivencio Dizon, who was then officer-in-charge of Clark Development Corporation (CDC) issued a memorandum temporarily stopping the desilting operations at the river.

6 Jul 2017 - Guv lambasts doctors, nurses over 7-month-old baby’s death

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia Pineda lambasted Escolastica Romero District Hospital’s (ERDH) concerned medical personnel recently for the alleged lapses committed that led to the death of a seven-month-old patient.

This came as Governor Pineda met face-to-face with the concerned doctors, nurses and ambulance driver in the presence of the bereaved family to personally investigate the circumstances leading to the demise of the patient.

6 Jul 2017 - Councilor wants task force to monitor foreign-owned establishments

ANGELES CITY -- A city councilor is pushing for the creation of a special task force that will implement an ordinance that requires establishments’ translation of foreign characters on billboards and other advertising signages.

Councilor Jesus Sangil said the task force--which will be composed by representatives from police, tourism department, media and the business sector--may also monitor the actual operation of foreign establishments particularly at the Korea Town.

PAMPANGA -- The Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) announced Wednesday, July 6, the availability of a new tranche of wheelchairs for local indigents.

KDF trustee Sylvia Ordonez told SunStar Pampanga that the foundation opted to offer more wheelchairs to cater to the demand among local indigents.

5 Jul 2017 - Central Luzon police eye ID system for Muslims

PAMPANGA -- In an aim to stop the spread of terrorism and lawlessness, the Police Regional Office-Central Luzon led by its director Chief Superintendent Aaron Aquino is mulling the implementation of an identification (ID) system for Muslims living in Central Luzon.

This was confirmed by Aquino in a phone interview with SunStar Pampanga after a dialogue with Muslim communities, religious leaders, members of the Regional Joint Public Safety Coordinating Committee (RJPSCC) and Brigadier General David Diciano of the 7thInfantry Division.

PAMPANGA -- Local authorities here recently arrested two suspected drug pushers in separate anti-illegal drug operations.

One suspect identified as Jessie Cabrera, 30, of Cansinala village, Apalit, was arrested after a poseur buyer successfully bought a sachet of crystal meth, locally known as “shabu,” in a drug bust conducted in San Miguel village.

4 Jul 2017 - BCDA, AFP to construct P70-M patrol road for Asean Summit

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) signed an agreement with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the construction of an 11.8-kilometer patrol road here in preparation for the upcoming 31st Asean Summit.

Under the agreement, the AFP 51st Engineering Brigade and the 355th Aviation Engineering Wing of the Philippine Air Force will provide the manpower, labor, and the general construction equipment and tools for the project.

PAMPANGA -- San Simon Mayor Leonora Wong recently expressed her strong objection on the construction of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling station in the town.

Wong referred to the refilling station of Regasco, an LPG brand owned by LPGMA Party-list Representative Arnel Ty, which allegedly violated the National Building Code after it built a “high-risk” structure in a 2.7 hectare lot near the residential area in San Isidro village.

PAMPANGA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 4 has filed charges against two firms, a cement factory and a food products company, for violating the revenue and tax laws.

The bureau filed criminal complaint against Tiongco High-Tech Construction Materials Corporation (High-Tech Corp) and its President Alicia Tumanda before San Fernando City Prosecutor’s Office for unlawful pursuit of business punishable under Section 258 of the National Revenue Code of 1997.

PAMPANGA -- Three drunk men were arrested by Minalin authorities for allegedly attacking police officers, who are manning a checkpoint.

One of the suspects identified as Joseph Yabut, 47, allegedly threw empty beer bottles in front of the mobile patrol, which hit the pavement and the front of the service vehicle.

PAMPANGA -- Some 150 Fernandino couples, who wish to stop or delay childbearing but are not using any method of contraception, attended on Saturday the launching “Everyday Family Planning” at the mini convention center in Heroes Hall.
