PAMPANGA -- "The year 2014, for Pampanga and Central and North Luzon's economy, was relatively a good year."

So disclosed Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PamCham) chairman emeritus Levy Laus, as he noted that businesses and investments boomed the whole year-round in Pampanga and the rest of the region, taking much of North Luzon into an economic upswing, even if the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been affected by the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).

PAMPANGA -- Some 53 displaced farmers from Barangay Maimpis who were affected by a land row received Tuesday financial assistance from the City Government of San Fernando on Tuesday.

Jived with the commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal's 118th death anniversary at Heroes Park here, Mayor Edwin Santiago lauded the farmers for their sacrifices and "standing up to their rights in times of adversity," branding them as heroes who fight for food sufficiency.

29 Dec 2014 - 2014 quarry revenues reache P1.3-B mark

PAMPANGA -- The provincial government’s revenue from quarry operations reached an all time high anew as it posted a P1,364,566,747.34 income December 23 this year.

The total income from Pampanga's sand and gravel industry, excluding revenues for December 29, which was still unavailable at press time, is the sum of aggregate quarry collections, weighing scale fees, accreditation of motor vehicles and sand and gravel fees.

PAMPANGA -- The intensified anti-drug operations of the Tarlac City Police Office (TCPO) resulted in the arrest of six alleged drug dependents in this city on Monday.

Earlier on, the CAIDSOFT (the anti-drug unit of TCPO) led by SPO2 Ronald Ibañez conducted a buy-bust operation against Perry Michael Dayrit, 24, single, a resident of Sitio Santos, Barangay Matatalaib, Tarlac City.

29 Dec 2014 - Suspected pusher, users arrested in Candaba

PAMPANGA -- Alfer Mallari, 27, An alleged shabu pusher and seven persons were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Bahay Pare, Candaba, Pampanga, Saturday.

Confiscated from his possession were two heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and a P500 bill used in the buy-bust operation, Recomono said.

MABALACAT CITY -- The Department of Health (DOH) has warned the public not to use firecrackers in welcoming the New Year because of the risk it poses.

The agency stated that it will treat all individuals injured by firecrackers during the New Year festivities "but damaged future has no cure. Don’t use firecrackers to welcome the New Year."

28 Dec 2014 - Kapampangan film bags awards in MMFF

PAMPANGA -- The Kapampangan independent film "Magkakabaung" (The Coffin Maker) won three major categories in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) New Wave Section.

The film won Best Director for Jayson Laxamana, Best Actor for actor Allen Dizon and Best Film in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave category. The entries for the New Wave category were presented last December 17, while the eight mainstream films were presented a few days before Christmas.

27 Dec 2014 - Hospitals on ‘white’ alert for New Year

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Health (DOH) has announced that Pampanga province’s 11 district hospitals and its lone provincial medical facility will be on “Code White” alert in preparation for the celebration of New Year.

The alert means that the medical personnel in the province are on-call for firecracker-related incidents, according to Dr. Jesse Fantone, head of the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of DOH-Central Luzon.

27 Dec 2014 - Arroyo back at hospital after Christmas furlough

PAMPANGA -- Former President and incumbent Pampanga Second District Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo returned to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City on Friday after her furlough request which started on December 23 ended on December 26.

Arroyo was reported to have arrived at the VMMC around 2:17 p.m. Friday, according to reports.

26 Dec 2014 - Sto. Tomas relentless vs drug pushers

PAMPANGA -- Mayor Joselito "Lito" Naguit has ordered the police to continue its aggressive campaign against alleged drug pushers in line with the directive of the provincial government to purge their illegal trade.

Naguit's order to Chief Inspector John Clark, town police chief, resulted in the arrest of at least 18 drug pushers since the renewed campaign was launched a few months ago. Two other suspects were arrested for alleged possession of illegal drugs, added Clark, who was assigned as chief cop of Sto. Tomas last January.

26 Dec 2014 - Gun-related crimes rise by 45% in 2014

PAMPANGA -- The number of shooting incidents in the province of Pampanga has increased significantly this year, the Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO) said recently.

PPPO data showed that reported shooting-related crimes went up from 98 cases (January to December 2013) to 142 cases in the same period this year. This year’s figure is up by 45 percent or 44 cases of gun-related crimes, with five days to go before year-end.

ANGELES CITY -- Former first district Representative Carmelo "Tarzan" Lazatin welcomed Monday the decision of third district Representative Oscar "Oca" Rodriguez to seek re-election, allowing a "harmonious relationship" between officials in the nearby City of San Fernando.

In a phone interview, Lazatin said both Rodriguez and City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago "are doing very good in their respective posts and there is no reason for them to clash in 2016."

PAMPANGA -- The Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) has been offering free physical therapy sessions for indigent stroke patients with the help of volunteers from the Arellano University at the Jose A. Datu Medical Center here.

PAMPANGA -- Two persons were killed by motorcycle riding suspects in Mexico town and the City of San Fernando, Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono Jr., Pampanga Police Provincial director, identified the fatalities as Warren Legaspi, 23, a resident of Barangay Lagundi, Mexico; and Restituto Dimabuyo, 41, a resident of Barangay Bulaon, City of San Fernando.

PAMPANGA -- The City of San Fernando was recognized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) after it topped this year’s Environmental Compliance Audit or ECA and for its environment-friendly programs and projects.

During the second year commemoration of Manila Bay Day at the Ninoy Aquino Amphitheater of Heroes Hall in this city, DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan said that San Fernando exemplified the “passion to protect the environment” through sound solid waste programs and projects that are compliant to RA 9003 and to the spirit of “bayanihan” which runs in accordance with the Mandamus order of the Supreme Court to save Manila Bay and water tributaries connected to it.

18 Dec 2014 - Angeles employees to get P10,000 bonus

ANGELES CITY -- Plantilla personnel of the City Government will each be getting an additional P10,000 Productivity Enhancement Incentive (PEI) bonus before Christmas as Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan approved the passage of Supplemental Budget No. 3, ordained by the Angeles City Council during a Special Session on Wednesday.

“Our permanent, co-terminus, contractual and casual employees deserve this additional productivity bonus especially those at the front line services. This is based on Executive Order No. 80 issued by President Benigno Aquino III and its implementing guidelines, DBM Memorandum Circular No. 2014-3 dated December 2, 2014,” Pamintuan said.

The celebration is based on the International Abilympics (IA) or Olympics of Abilities for PWDs, which traces its roots in Japan in 1972 when Abilympics, an annual national skill competition for the disabled persons, was organized by the Japanese Association for the Employment of the Disabled (JAED).

ANGELES CITY -- Carlo Catu's "Mis Da Ka" was awarded the Best Film in this year's Fourth Cine Kabalen Film Festival.

The winners were announced at the Cinema 4, SM City Clark recently. The 10 Kapampangan short films from different towns and cities in Pampanga vied for the following major awards: Gintung Tugak (Golden Frog), Gintung Salaksak (Golden Kingfisher), Gintung Matsin (Golden Monkey), Gintung Tikbalang (Golden Kapampangan Centaur), GintungDapu (Golden Crocodile) and the distinguished Gintung Damulag (Golden Carabao) for the best film. The trophies were designed by Kapampangan artist Don Reich De Dios.

PAMPANGA -- The mayor of nearby Macabebe town and two officials here, including Vice Mayor Querolico Daag, are opposing the proposed P170-million Saguing Cut-Off flood control project due to its "negative impact" on the livelihood of hundreds of fisherfolk and the possibility that "it could worsen" the flooding in the two towns and nearby areas.

In a statement, Macabebe Mayor Annette Flores-Balgan, Daag and Minalin Councilor Enrico Suba said the design of the 1.7-kilometer Saguing Cut-Off “is outdated and will not solve but worsen the flood problems” at the southwestern portion of Pampanga, including Minalin, Sto. Tomas, Macabebe, Masantol and Apalit towns.

PAMPANGA -- It is all set for this year's 13th Duman Festival supposedly set last December 6 which was later cancelled due to Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) as organizers of the event said it would push through this Saturday, December 20 at the Santa Rita Eco-park.

Andy Alviz and his group Arti.StaRita started the festival in 2002, which originated from the long standing tradition of pounding and winnowing unripe glutinous rice (lacatan) and turning it into a light pale gold or green delicacy called "duman." The festival features alfresco dining were rows and rows of delicacy stalls would sell various pastries and native dishes of the town, with duman being the major highlight.

CLARK FREEPORT -- Pampanga First District Representative Joseller "Yeng" Guiao asked the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) to grant the Clark International Airport (CRK) landing rights and at the same time influence airlines to transfer some of their flights here.

Guiao issued the statement during Thursday’s consultative forum here initiated by the House of the Representatives Committee on Transportation.

5 Dec 2014 - Guv, PB launch PWDs code

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia Pineda and the Provincial Board launched on Thursday Ordinance 648, enacting the Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) Code of the province which officially establishes the Provincial Council on PWDs Affairs and creates the PWDs Affairs Office under the supervision of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development.

This came as Governor Pineda announced during the "Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Day" held at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center that the Capitol will allot one half of one percent of the annual budget of the provincial government for the education, livelihood, financial and medical assistance and other needs of the PWDs.

PAMPANGA -- Three alleged illegal loggers were arrested by policemen in a checkpoint along Barangay Consuelo, Floridablanca, Sunday.

Superintendent Jhoana Rosales, chief of police of the town, said while her personnel were conducting checkpoint operations at the said barangay, flagged down a passenger jeepney with license plate number CWW-992.

PAMPANGA -- Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 Director Chief Superintendent Raul Petrasanta, along with Philippine National Police Director General Alan Purisima and 10 other police officials were ordered suspended by the Office of the Ombudsman for six months without pay over the alleged misuse of gun owners' courier fees.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales signed the suspension order that stems from the administrative and criminal complaints from an alleged anomalous PNP delivery service contract in 2011 with Werfast Documentary Agency, a private company.

ANGELES CITY -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has expressed its opinion on the rejected amusement fee ordinance of the Balibago Barangay Council after Barangay Captain Tony Mamac wrote the department about the actions of the Angeles City Council.

Mamac claimed that if the City Council finds the barangay ordinance inconsistent with the law or city ordinance, it shall return the same with comments and recommendations for adjustment, amendment, or modification within 30 days, which it failed within the said period, he stressed.

MABALACAT CITY -- Joint operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region III (PDEA-3) and PAIDSOTG collared a high value target in a buy-bust operation which resulted to the arrest of a suspected big-time woman pusher at the Dau Bus Terminal, Mabalacat City, Pampanga, on Tuesday.

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a 34.7 percent decrease in dengue cases in Central Luzon from January to the second week of November this year compared to the same period last year.

"There were 10, 908 cases this 2014 which is a significant drop from the 16,714 reported cases in 2013," Center for Health Development 3 Regional Epidemiologist Jessie Fantone said.
