29 Nov 2014 - Pampanga bound for another ‘first’

PAMPANGA -- After making marks with its child protection and unified health codes, the Provincial Government of Pampanga headed by Governor Lilia Pineda is bound for another “first” in country with its Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Code.

This was disclosed by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Chief Angie Blanco, who said that the comprehensive code is now up for review and approval by the Provincial Board led by Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda.

PAMPANGA -- Renowned Kapampangan artist Maestro Rafael “Paeng” Maniago is currently holding a month-long exhibit at the King's Royale Hotel in Bacolor, showcasing his newest “Kalesa Series” and paintings highlighting contemporary art and culture in the capital city.

The United States-based artist is back in Pampanga for a month-long vacation. Maniago said it is now high time to propagate his style and urge Kapampangan artists to showcase themes and genres in contemporary life that is not commonly explored by current artists.

29 Nov 2014 - Notorious woman pusher nabbed in San Fernando

PAMPANGA -- A suspected notorious woman pusher was arrested by combined police intelligence and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agents in a buy-bust operation in Barangay San Jose, City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Friday.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono Jr., Pampanga Police provincial director, identified the suspect as Analyn Luha, 32, a resident of Barangay Lambakin, Marilao, Bulacan who was arrested after she handed over a heat-sealed plastic containing suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.

29 Nov 2014 - PDEA collars 6 in anti-drug operation

PAMPANGA -- At least six notorious suspected drug pushers were arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) – Central Luzon during a raid at Northville 3, Barangay Bayugo, Meycauyan, Bulacan, Friday.

Jeoffrey Tacio, PDEA3 director, said his agents were armed with four search warrants when they raided a house at Northville 3 and 10 that resulted in the arrest of Cabugatan Gasa, 52, Jamel Tunday, 23, Ibrahim Parok, 27, Raymond Tingco, 27, Melvin Sabus, 27, and Jalila Tunday, 31, all of residents of Northville 3, barangay Bayugo.

CLARK FREEPORT-- SM City Clark will soon open a travelers’ lounge for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) travelling through the Clark Airport.

SM City Clark Public Relations Manager Venus Manalang told Sun.Star Pampanga that the lounge will also be made available to SM City Clark partners and was made possible through the initiative of Clark International Airport Corporation and Philtranco.

CLARK FREEPORT -- The Clark Water Corporation (CWC) is set to invest P3.93 billion for the improvement of the water utility project inside this Freeport Zone.

During the Balitaan sponsored by Capampangan in Media Inc. (CAMI), Jesus Laigo, chief operating officer of CWC, said that Clark Water will invest P3.93B in capital expenditure (capex) projects, P1.06B of which will be utilized in the next four years.

28 Nov 2014 - 2,263 Central Luzon workers get P15-M money claims

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Regional Office No. 3, as of October, has already posted a 94 percent settlement rate of P15,865,395.38, benefiting 2,263 workers from all over the region through its Single Entry Approach (SEnA) scorecard.

DOLE Regional Director Ana C. Dione reported to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz that the 94 percent rating is attributed to the settlement of 1,070 of the 1,138 requests for assistance (RFAs) handled by the regional and field offices. This figure likewise represents the biggest portion of the 1,134 total RFAs disposed, recording an astonishing 100 percent overall disposition rate for the period in review.

28 Nov 2014 - MCRs shoot man dead, injure companion

PAMPANGA -- A 43-year-old man was shot dead and another was seriously wounded when shot by motorcycle riding criminals (MRCs) along the road in Madapdap Resettlement Center in Mabalacat, Pampanga, Monday night.

Superintendent Henry Flores, chief of police of Mabalacat, identified the fatality as Rolito David, 43, a resident of Bacolor Extension C, Madapdap Resettlement.

MABALACAT CITY – The city police is gathering and consolidating accounts from witnesses in the gruesome killing of a woman here last Sunday.

This was learned from Superintendent Henry Flores, city police chief, who said that this will help investigators in establishing a lead on the slaying of Marian Lucas Gantan, 29, of Barangay Cacutud who was shot dead by gunmen riding motorcycles along the busy MacArthur Highway.

MABALACAT CITY -- 29-year-old Marian Gantan Lucas of 143 Barangay Cacutud was shot dead by undetermined number of gunmen along the busy national road in Barangay Mabiga, Sunday night.

Lucas was driving a White Hyundai Tuczon bearing license plates TOH 442 towards the north direction when the gunmen onboard an unknown vehicle assaulted her.

PAMPANGA -- Almost one year since being hailed as an ISO-certified government agency, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 3 (Dole-3) successfully passed its first surveillance ISO audit by German-based ISO-certifying body, DQS Holding GmbH.

Dole Regional Director Ana Dione reported to Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz that three DOLE offices—the regional office and the field offices in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija—had recently undergone a two-day ISO surveillance audit, earlier this month, by the DQS-UL Audit Team comprised of Engineers Eusebio Sanglap and Joe Alamares.

PAMPANGA -- 39-year-old tricycle driver Jeffrey Libut here was arrested recently after a drug buy-bust operation conducted by the Guagua police at Barangay Pulungmasle, this town.

The arrest of Esteban was due to a P500 marked money and two big sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, which were recovered from the suspect’s house.

PAMPANGA -- 71-year old Angel Pineda, 71 who killed his grandson Joshua Sarcia by slashing his neck was arrested in his residence in Barangay San Juan Bano, Arayat, Pampanga, Friday.

The victim was lying on the bed with wounds on his neck and taken to the Arayat District Hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival, Recomono said.

PAMPANGA -- Some 91 cadets belonging to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) graduating class 2015 stayed in Tarlac Province for three days.

Their visit is part of the IPSP Bayanihan or the Armed Forces of the Philippines Internal Peace and Security Plan. It is an "immersion mission" wherein cadets will mingle with the community.

PAMPANGA -- The City Government here has set in motion the P50-million street lighting project after Mayor Edwin Santiago formally requested the City Council to grant him authority to ink an agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Meeting media representatives for a breakfast forum, Santiago said the long-anticipated project will entail the use of light emitting diode or LED lights in the city’s major thoroughfares.

ANGELES CITY -- A former US Marine accused of killing a retired Northern Ireland police officer and his Filipino girlfriend in this city has been extradited from Los Angeles, California, according to the Associated Press (AP).

The 36-year-old suspect, Timothy Kaufman, was reportedly brought by the National Bureau of Investigation's Interpol division at the Los Angeles Airport on November 14 and reached the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on November 16.

PAMPANGA -- The Municipal Police of Santo Tomas arrested a suspect here over the weekend while another eluded arrest during a weekend checkpoint, police reports here said.

Police Chief Inspector John Clark told Sun.Star Pampanga that they received confidential information that two possible drug suspects on a motorcycle will be passing through the town.

PAMPANGA -- The provincial government of Pampanga led by Governor Lilia Pineda distributed Friday another 100 units of brand new barangay service vehicles to village chiefs from the nine towns of the province.

Engineer Olimpio “Noli” Pangan, General Services Office officer-in-charge said that the distribution is part of the 400 brand new service vehicles purchased by the Capitol worth P216-million.

PAMPANGA -- Collection from quarrying operations has officially reached P1,306,033,000 including revenues generated from weighing-scale fees for the past 53 months of the Pineda administration.

The experimental traffic scheme, which started last Wednesday, has significantly eased the volume of vehicles plying to and from the Freeport, which allowed the workers to save travel time.

ANGELES CITY -- The pioneer graduates of the BS Aeronautical Engineering program of Holy Angel University (HAU) scored a 100 percent passing rate in the November 2014 licensure exams for aeronautical engineers, with five of them landing in the Top Ten.

The perfect passing rate made HAU the board exam's Top Performing School, according to the Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC).

PAMPANGA -- Police arrested a widower and his live-in partner after they tried to fight back with responding policemen in Barangay Calulut, City of San Fernando, Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono Jr., Pampanga Police Provincial Director, identified the arrested as Dante Jarlego, 36, and his live-in partner Raquel Ramos, 36, both residents of Northville 14, Barangay Calulut and confiscated from them a Colt combat commander .45 caliber with magazine and two bullets, a hand grenade and a transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu as well as six spent shells from a caliber .45, two metal fragments and a magazine for a caliber .45 with seven bullets.

PAMPANGA -- Two businesswomen were held-up by motorcycle riding criminals (MCRs) along Quezon road in Barangay Laug, Mexico, Pampanga, on weekend.

Superintendent Ricardo Pangan, chief of police of Mexico, identified the victims as Amelia Pajarilla-Del Rosario, 57, a resident of Paralayo, and Marie Pajarilla-Saide, 49, of Barangay Gulap, both in Candaba.

PAMPANGA -- Another motorcycle was stolen on Tuesday while parked at the compound of a bank in Barangay San Agustin, City of San Fernando.

Superintendent Rechie Duldulao, Officer-In-Charge of the City of San Fernando Police, said a Honda TMX (YH-1116) owned by security guard Roberto Agustin, 31, a resident of Barangay Camachille, Mabalacat City, was stolen while parked at Sterling Bank located along MacArthur highway at the said barangay.

PAMPANGA -- "We are most willing to improve much that we admit our mistakes." said Mayor Edwin Santiago yesterday during his regular breakfast forum with media at Heroes Hall where he disclosed that he and some city government officials made a courtesy call and presented on Tuesday to newly installed Archbishop Florentino Lavarias a new and better ceremonial key to the city.

The city government last month met criticisms on social media after the city presented during the civil reception at Capitol for the archbishop a key which many considered a faux pas. Others who presented the prelate with s symbolic key were Governor Lilia Pineda on behalf of the province and Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan for Angeles City.

PAMPANGA -- Governor Lilia Pineda recently received a check from the Department Of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the amount of P1,159,860 as livelihood assistance for the Implementation of the Capability Building for the Livelihood Enhancement of Nego-Trailer Project and Integrated Services for Livelihood Advancement of Fisherfolks for families of overseas Filipino workers and other Kapampangans.

Part of the funds will also go to the provincial government’s Sampaguita Project.

ANGELES CITY -- The fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Santo Domingo here caused some P100,000 in damage to property, the Angeles City Fire Department said Thursday.

Senior Fire Officer Arnold Simbulan said at least two houses were burned in the fire that started around 11 a.m. The investigators said the fire could have been caused by a defective electric utility meter.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region IV registered a whopping P17.572 billion in tax collections for the period of January to October this year, with the revenue district expressing optimism that it will meet its annual target.

Revenue Region 4 (RR-4) OIC Regional Director Conrado Lee said that the two months remaining for 2014 will greatly determine the collection of RR4. Lee said that the period's collection is still .28 percent in excess of its target goal of P17.523 billion. This means that the BIR still has an excess collection of P50 million.

ANGELES CITY -- Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan announced that a P1-million CISCO laboratory is currently being built in the City College of Angeles (CCA) during the college’s Monday flag raising ceremony for the start of the second semester for this school year.

According to Pamintuan, he was recently in talks with local business tycoon Dennis Uy and CISCO Networking Academy Program Manager Julius Sangalang Macaspac in the establishment of the said laboratory. He said that Uy was willing to donate P1-million for the hardware, while Macaspac will work on providing the CISCO networking software.

PAMPANGA -- A militant farmers' group slammed Monday the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for its bogus agrarian reform program, which allowed the conversion to an agribusiness park of a 350-hectare agricultural land in Rosario, Batangas purportedly owned by Vice President Jejomar Binay and his alleged dummy businessman Antonio Tiu.

10 Nov 2014 - CIAC engineer slain in Tarlac

PAMPANGA -- An engineer of Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) was killed and his wife seriously wounded when unidentified armed men riding-in-tandem on board a black motorcycle shot them several times in Barangay Padapada, Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac, on Monday.

Senior Superintendent Alex Sintin, Tarlac Police Provincial director, identified the fatality as Engineer Ruel Angeles, 55, manager of the Aviation Engineering Department of CIAC and a resident of the said barangay.

9 Nov 2014 - Central Luzon palay production hits 1.3 million MT

PAMPANGA -- Provinces in Central Luzon have registered a combined harvest of 1, 322, 628 metric tons of palay for the wet cropping season, marking a relative stability in the region's output, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.

DA regional director Andrew Villacorta said the production report covers the period March 16 to September 15 of this year. The report said that 441, 193 hectares have been planted during the period with only 262, 498 hectares harvested so far.

Villaflor said the suspect has standing warrant of arrest for the crime of robbery with violence and intimidation against a person with a bail bond of P100,000.

PAMPANGA -- Vice-Governor Enrique "Kit" Cojuangco Jr. gave 61 Day Care Teachers (DCTs) early Christmas presents recently here.

The Tarlac vice-governor handed over Lenovo TAB A730 units to the DCTs to enhance education in the province. The tablets are not for personal use of the recipients but for their Day Care Centers. PAMPANGA -- The Sandiganbayan has allowed former President and now Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to leave hospital detention and visit the wake of her youngest grandson, Jorge Alonso “Jugo” Bernas, who died of a congenital heart problem Sunday at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City. He was just over a year old.

PAMPANGA -- President Benigno Aquino III and Armed Forces chief General Gregorio Pio Catapang have been urged not to quarantine the 112 Filipino peacekeepers stationed in Ebola-stricken Liberia in Capas, Tarlac.

The peacekeepers who will be quarantined for three weeks at the Philippine Peacekeeping Operations Center (PKOC) at Camp O’ Donnell, are set to arrive between November 10 and 14 on board a chartered Russian airline, but the port of entry---if it’s Clark Airport or any other airbase in Manila---has not yet been confirmed, according to Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. vice chairman Rene Romero.

PAMPANGA -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Luzon Office confirmed on Friday that the government is allotting P108 million for the installation of LED (light-emitting diode) lights along three major roads in Pampanga.

DPWH Regional Director Antonio Molano Jr. said the Road Board approved the proposal to put 1,844 streetlights along the Dau Spur Exit (667 lights), Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo (GOS) Road (671 lights), and Fil-Am Friendship Highway (506 lights).

PAMPANGA -- Award-winning photographer Ruston Banal is now in New York to receive his awards from the International Photography Awards (IPA) for his photo that depicts a Kapampangan religious and cultural practice.

Banal's entry "Kuraldal" landed first place and also got the honorable mention for the overall category in the IPA. The IPA is considered as the "Oscars" in the world of photography. The competition attracted 20,000 entries from various countries.
